  • Things you should know about our wedding

Just to give people a heads up on what to expect

    1. SHOCK AND SURPRISE ! There will be no white wedding bells.. anywhere, don't be shocked when you fail to see any bubbles, almonds wrapped in tulle or anything pastel. Please do not be surprised when you realize this isn't the kind of wedding you are used to . Tom and I are far from the average couple and our matrimonial celebration is a direct reflection of our "Abby Normal" nature. I have heard horror stories of people who tried to plan a wedding with friends and family acting as nay-sayers... and i have to admit Tom & I are lucky enough to have completely supportive family & friends...who not only hold the negative feedback , but offer support and even more outlandish , crazy ideas. we love all of you for this. thank you

    2. Get your grub on . This is not a "fancy-sit-down-formal-napkin-in-lap-function " . Tom and I have been to a few weddings in our life time , and while each one was a beautifully created masterpiece of each couple... we know we wouldn't be happy with the normal reception (see #1 , above). Our menu isn't completely ironed out.. but I know this much it will consist of party style finger foods... candy, cookies and deserts as far as your waistline can see !!! The first detail we nailed down when we started planning was the deserts. Hell , here it is a year after the planning began and i still only have the deserts nailed down. HA! There will be plastic ware, paper plates and cups you throw away.. we aren't fancy people.  This is a DIY event , we are utilizing the help of some very talented friends , and their families .( extra special love and thanks to the Bass, Curry & Pace crews.. )  and anyone else who has 2 free hands and can make flour , sugar and eggs turn into deliciousness!
so .. be prepared to eat.. but just know it won't be a meal served to you at your table. Were making you work your way through the treacherous line up of foods on a buffet. ... oh no need to thank me.. you are welcome! (wear something with an elastic waistband... you'll thank me later)

    3. BOOZE- OK . in a perfect world we would be recession proof, dangerously thin and we would have a elaborate open bar with a certified mix-ologist who can conjure delicious alcoholic treats all night long. But .... we have none of those things. we have 2 union representatives who are nice enough to serve up beer , ice and sodas ..(tipping makes your drink taste better ) We will have beer.. and ..(drum roll please)  our reception hall allows you to bring your own bottle to keep at your table. I know how incredibly tacky it might sound to some outsiders.. but let's keep it real.. that's freaking fantastic to most people who are particular about what they want anyway. If you are a jack n coke man ... bring your jack . If you prefer a Lil Cognac... stick it in your purse and come on down ! There was no way that Tom and I would have ever been able to figure out the perfect formula of what liquor to buy . It would be a costly nightmare. and let's face it we have enough stress. I am fortunate to know a professional "mixologist" (or bar maid for all y'all old schoolers) Joy , who is also a guest / consultant  has been gracious enough to devise a signature drink , and a big ol' batch of spicy Bal'mar Bloody Mary .. (Tom's fav)

    4. What to wear??? - OK .. well it's the night before Halloween .. I would be ecstatic to see awesome costumes. But I know not everyone is a Halloween nut like us.. but a lot of our friends are weirdos like us.. so i can only hope that we see some unique costumes. But it's not a requirement. I have been asked this question by a couple people and I guess I wasn't really expecting anything one way or another. It is an evening event.. so if you are looking for an excuse to get all dolled up and fancy... go for it. If you wake up that day and think to yourself "self... it's a jeans and t shirt kind of day " effing wear jeans and a t-shirt. I won't shit talk you for being comfortable.  I refuse to be that 'bridezilla' who makes the parents of the bride and groom dress a certain way .. or anyone else for that matter. Come as you are. (but if you have a cool costume.. seriously .. that's what Halloween is all about.)

5.Gifts - this is a weird subject for us.. to ask for things.. but we know people will buy things just because it's a wedding. so I am trying to specify as tactfully as possible. "we want money. that's what i want.. lots of money." (flying lizards in case you were curious) we did not register for many gifts. a few here and there and then we started to realize we have a lot of stuff. We did register for our honeymoon , cause well that costs money and we aren't exactly made of it. so if you are pondering "what do you give the couple that has everything?"  (figuratively speaking of course) The answer is money. we take it all , cash , good checks , money orders and rolled coins. ha. just kidding.. rolled coins are a pain in the ass. No seriously check out our registry on Carnival . There is no need in someone wasting money and time picking us up things at Bed , Bath & Beyond when we have all that stuff. and I love to shop so what we don't have I end up buying . All of that being said .. Let me clarify.. although we don't need appliances and such.and oh my sweet Jesus please NO TOWELS (we have towels out the wazoo, our hall closet is crammed with towels). we truly genuinely appreciate the one of a kind , hand made, artistically crafted gifts. We are surrounded by a large group of artists in many mediums , and being a crafty hand made kinda gal myself.. I get a little misty eyed when i am given something I know someone took time and effort to make especially for me. There isn't a registry for paintings ,sculptures , handmade jewelry and quilts.. but there should be .

    6. Children , and why there won't be many at the wedding -  because we sell them to the Gypsies. ha just kidding.... I have to be honest.. Originally Tom & I laid out the guest list to include children . it was close to 300. we scaled back.. made some cuts... eliminated children .. we got closer to 140. that's still an insane amount of people when you consider that you don't speak to that many people in a month. This is an evening event.. and then we started considering the adult oriented scenarios that might play out with a combination of photo opportunities ,music, alcohol and our wedding party dynamic. We realized it would be a benefit to the children if they were not exposed to those scenarios . There are a few children in the wedding party (family) I'm pretty sure arrangement's are going to be made so that they leave around bed time ; ) So please don't be offended that the invites do not include your children , We know what a joy all of the little kiddies are.. but to help keep them from needing emotional therapy in the future.. we think it's best to leave them at home ; )

  • how we roll....

    cruising in style

I can't even tell you how freaking excited I am right now! Tom and I just got back from Waldorf, MD where we met with members of the Maryland Chevelle Club (http://www.chevelles.net/mcc/)

Tom and I have this idea that we are just too out of the ordinary to have ordinary plain transportation. I love the idea of having classic pieces of American machinery bring our wedding party into the wedding ceremony / reception site. It's hard to find something along those lines , that hasn't been modified to fit 20 people into the back of it. (We aren't big fans of the limo's / 57 chevy limo.. or hummers... blah)

Earlier this summer I decided that it was worth a shot in the dark to email the Maryland Chevelle Club and ask them if they have ever heard of such a random and strange request. I was shocked when the President of the club , Fred Gillis got back to me and told me he didn't think it was weird, he thought it was cool!!!!  Freaking Saweeeeettttt!!!!!  I can honestly say it was the first time in the whole wedding planning process that I got giddy and squealed like a little girl who just got a freaking pony!!!! I ran down the hall to tell tom about the email and I slid a little bit like Tom Cruise in Risky Business.. I might have jumped up and down a little bit too!

anyway... back to present day.  We met with several of the club members tonight, and it was like walking into a room full of friends that we hadn't seen in a while. Everyone was so nice! and not only did they want to help us with our dream wedding request... they seemed excited to help us!

The club is involved in helping out a family at christmas time every year , anonymously ! that says a lot to me. It's one thing when a company with a big name (we'll say something like .... FitiCinancial just for example)  , donates to a cause and it is plastered across every news channel and paper  making sure they get tons of credit. However when a small club compiled of hardworking every day people decides to make a anonymous contribution to someone who is down on their luck.. that touches me. I did get quite misty eyed .

Anyway.. if you can't tell... I am SUPER FREAKING EXCITED!!! Tom and I are going to join the club.. because they assured us we don't need to own a Chevelle to be a member.. but I am definitely an aspiring owner. I can't wait until the day that I can own my very own Chevelle. I might let Tom drive it to the gas station... just kidding ; )

Looking at all of the member's vehicles.. is like being a kid in a candy store.. the site is eye candy for the car lover in me !

i have to keep telling myself.... i love my honda...i love my honda... i love my honda....i love my honda.

  • Vendors...

    the chosen ones..

Ok so to spread the word of a good deal.. and great work .. i figured I should do some name dropping ; ) It's what I do .. shameless promotion.

here's whats up. Most of the wedding is DIY . but even an amazing DIY team such as ours needs outside help.
We all get by with a little help from our friends... well friends and complete strangers who offer goods and services in exchange for cash.

    #1 Photography
I can't even begin to tell you how stoked I am that I found Gail Kilker. She's awesome. And I am super lucky that I stumbled across her on the magically wonderful internet . Her style is right up our alley .. and she has this super cool / sweet personality to boot ! oh yeah , ironically enough .. all of the music on her website are songs that are in regular rotation on my ipod. eerie ..coincidence , love it!
    www.kilkerphoto.com
check her out ! she isn't the cookie cutter wedding photographer .. she does much more. LOVE HER!

    #2 Photo Booth
Ok so I am such a geek about this one. I have always loved photo booth pictures.. something about the fun pics that come out of the magical little slot... (that's what she said)
anyway... many late night google searches resulted in www.partypicturebooth.com
Matt Boyarski has been my point of contact, he has been nothing but helpful. I can't wait to see what madness takes place in the photo booth! Just remember .. a majority of our guests are heavily tattooed.. thus making them highly identifiable ... nude.
So the booth rental is the most affordable one I came across.. and the rental comes with 4 hours.. an attendant , a disc of all the photos and 2 prints of each picture. 1 print goes in our scrap book (the attendant helps with that) "what do you do with the other print ?" you ask. Well I shall tell you .
    Ebay!
yeah I said it . I freaking love Ebay! So anyway .. way back when Lila Love was a peanut in her mommy's tummy .. I purchased acrylic magnetic photo frames to make baby shower favors with Lil' peanut's sonogram picture (she was extremely cute then also)
anyway .. I emailed the same lady who gave me a great deal on frames ... so TA-DA! photo frame favors !!! wooo hooooo

    #3 Music
So we are pretty much music snobs. I say "pretty much" meaning... seriously.. I hate most music , if it is on the radio.. there is a strong possibility that I don't know it , don't like it and quite possibly the sound will make me angry. That being said , Tom and I knew how important it would be to have a DJ who understood just how serious we are about the "do not play list"

and i'm confident we found just the man for the job. http://www.burningspearentertainment.com/
Gerry is a professional with many years of experience. His website is super easy to use. The song list data base is very extensive. He even creates a sign on for you and your guests to make requests, a time line .. etc.
anyway I can ramble on an on.

We have expressed to Gerry just how much we do not like organized dances , line dances.. and other highly annoying activities people feel the need to do post nuptials.
